Organize the information from the news by matching the segments with the written statements.
Go to the Teacher's Note to learn more about the organization of information in reporting news events.
1) Read the statement or question that precedes the first listening item (if applicable).
2) Click the "Item" button and listen for the information related to or introduced by the phrase/question you have just read.
3) Click the "Hint" button for help with difficulties in the item.
4) Move the pointer to the box, on the opposite side, containing "Choices". Select by clicking on the chosen description that best matches the item.
5) Move the cursor to the dialog box below Item 1 and click to place your choice in the box.
6) If you change your mind later, you can click the "Undo" button; then, select a new description from the choices box.
7) After you have answered all the questions, click the "Check Answer" button. If your choice is correct, a green checkmark will appear; if it is incorrect, a red "x" appears.
8) Click on the "Reason" button to view an explanation.
9) Continue listening and answering all the statements. Clicking on a "Next" button will reveal the next set of statements (if applicable).

قُتل فجر الأربعاء مواطناً فلسطينياً أثناء محاولته الاقتراب من السياج الأمني المحيط بمستوطنة مُراغ جنوب قطاع غزة وتفجير عبوّة ٍ ناسفة .
Early Wednesday morning, a Palestinian citizen was killed while he was attempting to approach the security fence to detonate an explosive device surrounding the Morag settlement in south Gaza Strip.
Notice that مُحيط بـ (surrounding) is different from مُحيط (ocean).
Notice that the reporter began by giving the time and the day of the week of the incident (فجر الاربعاء), and then the nationality (جنسية) of the person who was killed. This was followed by giving the reason behind the killing (أثناء محاولته الاقتراب من السياج الأمني وتفجير عبوّة ٍ ناسفة ) and the location of the incident (مستوطنة مُراغ جنوب قطاع غزة ).

من جهةٍ أخرى ذكر شهود عيان ان إطلاق نار كثيف سُمع بالقرب من مستوطنة مُراغ مؤكدين ان الجنود الاسرائليين المتمركزين في أحد ابراج المراقبة العسكرية في المستوطنة على منطقة العتاترة قاموا باطلاق النار دون إدلاء أسباب لذلك.
واكدّ شهود ان إطلاق النار لم يكن متبادلاً مما يدل على عدم وجود اِشتباكات بين الطرفين في المنطقة.
On the other hand, eyewitnesses said that heavy shooting has been heard close to the Morag settlement. They assured that the Israeli soldiers stationed at one of the military observation towers in the Atatra region started firing for no reason.
The eyewitnesses assured that there was no response to the gunfire, which indicates that there were no clashes between the two sides in the region.
Towards the end of the audio report, the accounts from eyewitnesses about the incident (من جهةٍ أخرى ذكر شهود عيان ) are given. This allows the listener to compare these accounts to the information that was previously provided.
Notice that the verb قام بـ means "to carry out," while قام على means "to rise against." من جهةٍ أخرى (on the other hand or from the other side) is a common phrase found in the news. Note that جهةٍ is pronounced with تنوين as جـِهـَتين.
إدلاء is the verbal noun of the verb أدلى ( to express). The verb أدلى comes with the preposition في and means "to slander." With the preposition بـ , it means "to express."

وقالت مصادر عسكرية إسرائيلية أن ثلاثة فلسطينيين حاولوا التسلل إلى المستوطنة المذكورة وتفجير عبوّةٍ ناسفة. وفي أعقاب الحادث تم تبادل لإطلاق النار بين الفلسطينيين والجنود الاسرائليين مما أدى إلى مقتل أحد الفلسطينيين فيما لاذ الإثنين الآخرين بالفرار حسب المصادر.
According to the sources that were interviewed after the incident, the Israeli soldiers had exchanged fire with the Palestinians, which led to one of the Palestinians getting killed and the other two escaping.
Here, the reporter gives the details of the incident: the source of the information (مصادر عسكرية اسرائيلية), the number and the nationality of the people who were involved (ثلاثة فلسطينيين), their mission (حاولوا التسلل إلى المستوطنة المذكورة وتفجير عبوّةٍ ناسفة ), and finally the result of their actions (تبادل لإطلاق النار بين الفلسطينيين والجنود الاسرائليين مما أدى إلى مقتل أحد الفلسطينيين فيما لاذ الإثنين الآخرين بالفرار حسب المصادر).
Notice that الإثنين الآخرين is between the verb لاذ and the preposition بـ. The meaning of the verb لاذ بـ is "to resort to" or "to observe." لاذ بالفرار means "to flee" or "to escape," while لاذ بالصمت means "to keep silent."
