Navigation And Tabs:
The main navigation bar appears in the top left portion of each activity page. Additionally,
there is a "quick" navigation bar in the bottom right corner of each page. There are also
resource tabs located in the top right portion of each page. The navigation bars provide one-click
navigation to the different activity pages that make up the learning object.
Below are working models of both the main and quick navigation bars as well as the resource tabs.
By clicking on and/or passing your mouse over the buttons, you can read descriptions of each of
the buttons function.

The buttons at the top of each page open peripheral pages (#1-6). That is, pages that are not necessarily
part of an activity.
- 1. The Glossary button opens the glossary which is developed for each lesson. The glossary
is generally arranged according to the items appearance in the source text. The order, however,
may be alphabetical or in another sorting method based on language.
- 2. The Source button opens the source document from which the lesson was developed. It will be
the written text for a reading lesson and the audio transcript for a listening lessson. Generally,
there is a text, translation and audio rendering included in the source. It can be used as a complimentary
component of the lesson or as a single standalone piece. How it is used is up to the learner/teacher.
- 3. The Information button opens a page that contains specific information about the lesson. This
information is generally used by a teacher or manager to select a lesson for a specific use without having
to do a complete review.
- 4. The Resources button may or may not appear on a lesson. If it is present, it will open a page
with links to materials that are not integral to the lesson, but may be of interest to the learner. These
pages generally require an internet connection to access.
- 5. The Tutorial button opens the a short tutorial page that will help the learner navigate through a
lesson, taking full advantage of all of the component pieces.
- 6. The Feedback button opens a survey page through which the learner/teacher can evaluate the lesson and
provide feedback to the GLOSS Development Team.
The activity buttons (#7) are used to navigate between each of the activity pages in a lesson. The learner
can navigate to any activity at any time, however, it is generally recommended to go through a lesson in the
prescribed order.
The activity support buttons (#8-12) provide additional capabilities to each activity page.
- 8. The Teacher button, when present, opens a window with teacher's note. The note may range from a simple
tip for the activity to a full blown map of with detailed explanations. Always read the instructions for
guidance on when to open the teacher's note. If there is not specific guidance, feel free to open it at any
time during the activity.
- 9. The Instruction button opens the instructions that appear at the beginning of each activity. Use this
feature whenever you need to review instructions or read the detailed instructions of an activity.
- 10. The Bookmark button allows you to bookmark your activity page within a lesson. Note that it does
not mark where you are within a specific activity. The bookmark will only take you back to the beginning
of that activity. Once you have saved a bookmark, you can get back to that page by using your favorites on
the browser's dropdown menus.
- 11. The Reload button will refresh an activity page. Only use this button if you wish to completely reload
the page anew. All work completed up to this point will be lost.
The navigation buttons at the bottom of each page (#12) are used to progress through an activity. They will
allow you to move from question to question, page to page, etc. within a single activity. Once you have completed
each of the parts of an activity, the next arrow will take you to the next activity. This is a very convenient
way of navigating step by step through an activity.
